The annoyance that hits a person when they turn the hot tap on and not a single drop of water comes out is unmatchable. The absence of hot water annoys me to an infinite extent when I am about to get into the shower. After dealing with this problem a couple of times, I know a few reasons behind no water coming out of the hot water side of the faucet.
As irritating as it may be, you can deal with this problem easily all by yourself if you know the cause of the problem. Therefore, for your convenience, I am sharing detailed information regarding no water coming out of the hot water side of faucet; this includes the reasons as well as fixes.
Check The Other Side Of The Faucet
If you are dealing with your hot side of the faucet dry heaving instead of water coming out of it, then the first thing that you need to do is turn the other side of the tap on. This is just to find out if the problem is only with the hot side of the faucet or the cold side as well. If there is water not coming from the cold side, then you may need to call a professional to check out your water connection and solve the problem.
On the other hand, if water starts pouring out from the cold side, then you need to find out what the problem with the hot side of the faucet is. There are a few reasons why the water might not be coming from the hot side of the faucet.
1. Frozen Pipes
The first reason why you are getting no water from the hot side of the faucet is frozen pipes. This usually happens when the temperature drops and the weather gets too cold. In cold weather, bathroom pipes often freeze, which halts the flow of hot water, causing the problem of no water coming out of the hot water side of the faucet.
2. Broken Water Heater
The second reason behind no water coming out of hot water side of faucet is that your water heater might be damaged. When there is something wrong with the water heater, and it stops working, it affects the flow of water from the hot water side of the faucet.
Rust is an enemy of pipes; whether you have bathroom pipes or kitchen pipes, they are all a target of rusting. If you see any rust gathering on the outside of the pipe, then you best believe that the inside of the pipe is also suffering from rusting. When a pipe starts rusting from the outside and the inside, it affects and stops the flow of water.
Another common reason behind no water coming out of the hot water side of the faucet is that there might be some sort of blockage in the pipe. Blockage in the pipes is usually caused by some sort of sediments or residue forming up on the inside of the pipe. This residue build-up in the pipe ultimately leads to forming a blockage, which stops the flow of hot water.
5. Wrong Thermostat Settings
Similar to the water heater breaking down, having wrong thermostat settings can also affect and temper the smooth flow of water. If you are dealing with water not coming out of the hot water side of your bathroom’s faucet and you have checked for all of the above reasons, and they are not the cause, then you need to check the thermostat. Wrong thermostat settings often cause an immediate halt in the smooth flow of hot water.
6. Improper Installation
Another reason that I have faced behind the halt of hot water coming from the faucet is the improper installation. This factor mostly happens when you buy any new pipes or a water heater for your bathroom, and instead of taking help from a professional, you should try installing it yourself. Improper installation of even a single pipe can lead to no water coming out of the hot water side of the faucet. Therefore, either you need to ask for the services of a professional or read the instructions on the manual very carefully while installing pipes.
The last reason behind no water coming out of the hot water side of the faucet is an airlock forming in the pipe. An airlock may seem like a small issue, but this minor issue can lead to no water coming out of your faucet, which is why you need to carefully inspect this factor. An airlock forms when some air gets trapped in the pipes of your bathroom or kitchen. The trapped air can lead to causing a blockage which then immediately halts the smooth flow of water from the hot side of the faucet.
Now that you are aware of all the reasons behind no water coming out of the hot water side of your faucet, it is time for you to learn how to fix these problems. Do not worry; each one of the problems shared above has a fix so that you can enjoy hot water.
1. Fixing An Airlock
If you are dealing with an airlock forming in your pipes, then do not fret; there is a solution for that. When I had an airlock in my pipes, I used a hosepipe, as that is the best and easiest way of fixing an airlock. Take one side of the hosepipe and attach it to the cold side of the faucet that has water coming out of it. Then take the other end of the hosepipe and attach it to the side that has an airlock.
Once the hosepipe is secured from both sides, then you will need to first turn the hot water side on. Then turn the cold side of the faucet on. The water will go through the hosepipe and into the hot side of the faucet. The pressure of the water will push the airlock outwards.
2. Fixing The Thermostat
If you are dealing with a tempered thermostat, then the simplest and easiest fix for that is to adjust the settings. If you do not know how to adjust the thermostat settings, you can use the manual that came with it and keenly follow the instructions written on it.
3. Removing Rusty Pipe
As I have mentioned earlier, rusting is an enemy of pipes, and when a pipe suffers from rusting, it affects the smooth flow of water, and you are stuck with no water coming out of the hot water side of the faucet. If you see rust on the outside of your pipe, then the simplest solution for that is to change the pipe. Once you remove the old rusty pipe and install a new one in its place, hot water will start pouring out of the faucet.
4. Proper Installation
In case of the hot water not coming out of the faucet due to improper installation of the pipes, your safest bet is to fix the installation. I would recommend taking out the instructions on a manual and following each instruction properly. Another solution for improper installation is to call in a professional and let them take care of it.
5. Unfreeze The Pipe
Frozen pipes are the most common cause of water blockage, especially in cold areas. There is a solution for dealing with frozen pipes. The simplest solution is to take a hairdryer and blow some hot air directly into the pipe to unfreeze it. Another method of unfreezing the frozen pipes is to directly pour some hot water into the pipe. Make sure that you are pouring really hot water so that it can unfreeze the pipe.
6. Removing Blockages
If the problem behind no water coming out of the hot water side of the faucet is residue build-up in the pipes, then there are two ways to deal with that problem. The first method is by taking a thin wire and pushing that wire into the pipe. The wire will stumble upon the residue build-up, and when you keep pushing it, it will remove the build-up. Another method of removing blockages is by removing the entire pipe. Once you take the old pipe out and add a new one in its place, your problem will be solved.
Why is there no water coming out of the hot water side?
There are a few reasons why there is no water coming out of the hot water side of your faucet. The most common reason in the cold areas is frozen pipes. Other than this reason, airlock, blockages, rust forming on the inside of the pipes are some of the other common causes.
How do you get rid of an airlock in a hot water system?
If you are dealing with an airlock forming in the pipes of your hot water side of the faucet, then you need to use a hosepipe. Attach both sides of the hosepipe to your faucets, one to the cold side and one to the faulty side. Then turn both faucets on and let the water pressure from the cold side push the air outwards.
Whether you live all by yourself or with a family, the problem of no water coming out the hot side of the faucet is one that is equally annoying in both scenarios. I have shared a few methods that will help you deal with this problem all by yourself.
